  • AREA VICE PRESIDENT DEDICATES HFH GHANA’S 5000TH HOUSE
On the 29th of September 2007, the Area Vice President (HFHI AME) Mr. Matthew Maury joined HFH Ghana to celebrate its 20th Anniversary and the dedication of its 5000th house in Ghana. In his speech at the Nkwantakese Affiliate during the durbar of the people and chiefs of the Nkwantakese Traditional Area, Mr. Maury applauded the selfless services of HFH Ghana’s volunteers and staff. He indicated that the dedication of the 5000th house means HFH Ghana is the biggest Program in West, Central and Island Africa.

Mr. Maury expressed sincere gratitude to God noting that it is with God’s blessing that has enabled HFH Ghana to achieve this success. He noted that the HFH Ghana is a testimony of a success story of the Habitat for Humanity Program built around a starting Structure-Volunteerism. Mr. Maury pointed out volunteer leadership from both the local and international levels, volunteer donors and governments playing a role in supporting Habitat’s operations that the program is founded. It is with stakeholders being investors and active participants that HFH can achieve success.

The Area Vice President (AVP) outlined the role Habitat for Humanity is playing in community transformations in rural communities in Ghana. He noted that HFH Ghana has transformed lives in 135 communities across 8 of the 10 regions in Ghana, pointing out that Housing plays a key role in transformations. “Housing is a driver of economic gains, a key asset building strategy for many families as well as for building the construction sector within the community. Housing is also a chief driver for health and the development of the community”, Mr. Maury observed. He said housing is not measured in bricks and mortar but by even looking at the physical structures such as the houses and schools as well as by the impact the program has on the lives of the community.

Using Biblical reflections on ‘love’ and ‘who is my neighbour’, the AVP indicated that the love of God is premium and love of one’s neighbour is also paramount. He illustrated the 5000 families served as the present neighbours and the 5000 families to be served by HFH Ghana in the coming years as the future neighbours and called on all to support HFH Ghana to achieve this goal.

The AVP later joined the dedication of the 5000th house and also presented a Bible to 5000th homeowner, Mr. Akwasi Prempeh.
