  • George Ayi Quaye

    George Ayi Quaye

George Ayi Quaye, 47 is not a native of Mim, the community where he works and stays with his wife, Margaret, 41 and children, Gifty, Joshua, Dorcas, Samuel, Samuel Jr. and Kwame. He therefore had no family house there where he could even have access to a single room as is usually the practice. Acquiring accommodation for his family was very difficult for him. Another family who had abandoned a part of their family house because it was too dilapidated to live in offered that part of the house to them.

George had to pay rent to the family every month in return even though the roof was practically falling on their heads. They slept in the room at night and did everything else outside the house because there were no bathroom or toilet facilities there. George and Margaret therefore quickly embraced the Habitat self-help programme when they heard about it in church. Today the family has a Habitat house of their own.
