Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends.
Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International is a Christian housing ministry committed to building and renovating simple, decent and affordable housing for families in need. Habitat for Humanity International does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnic group or religion. Although Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry, it is not necessary to be or become a Christian to receive assistance.
Habitat for Humanity Ghana, an affiliate programme to Habitat for Humanity International, believes it is possible to eradicate sub-standard or poverty housing in Ghana: with the support of everyone of course! The impelling conviction is that no development strategy or programme can succeed in the absence of attention to housing. Productivity, the hallmark of economic and social progress will remain a mirage if families are not adequately housed. Our goal therefore is to eliminate poverty housing in Ghana.
Millard Fuller has noted that: “our goal is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth by constructing and building adequate and basic housing. Furthermore, all of our words and actions are for the ultimate purpose of putting shelter on the hearts and minds of people in such a powerful way that poverty housing and homelessness become socially, politically, and religiously unacceptable in our nation and world”.
