Youth & Habitat

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

The Campus Chapter and Youth Programmes (CCYP) Department of Habitat for Humanity seeks to involve the youth in Habitat f or Humanity’s goal of eradicating poverty housing from the face of the earth. A campus chapter is an unincorporated, student-run, student-led organization at a high school or college that performs 4 main functions: building, fundraising, advocating, and educating.

Mission Statement
To capture the imagination, energy and hope of young people worldwide ages 5 to 25 in order to productively and responsibly involve them as leaders in the work of Habitat for Humanity.

Below are Campus chapters as well as schools and youth groups that partner with Habitat for Humanity Ghana:

University of Capecoast
The University of Cape Coast HFH Campus Chapter has been in existence since December 2003, as a result of the enthusiasm that a group of students showed in volunteering their energies and resources for humanity. The quest by students to go the extra mile to help eradicate poverty housing is what has sustained the Chapter which aims to:

  • To help HFH as a whole and Habitat for Humanity Ghana in particular, to achieve its mission of providing decent and affordable houses in partnership with families in need.
  • To instill the spirit of voluntarism in students.
  • To educate communities about the need to help eradicate poverty houses.
    Lincoln Community School:
Lincoln Community School, an American-styled International school, partners with Habitat for Humanity Ghana by organizing weekend builds at HFHG affiliate work sites. During these builds, students, teachers, parents and administrators volunteer by participating in the construction of houses. Brick moulding, bricklaying, carrying bricks, flooring and leveling, filling foundations, plastering, etc are some of the activities the volunteers undertake.

“I am constantly inspired by Habitat for Humanity. My times building always remind me of what life is truly about”. Amy Brummit, LCS Habitat Group Advisor.

Other activities usually carried out during these weekend builds include drumming and dancing around a bonfire, attending choral concerts, tree-planting, etc. The students stay with host families in their Habitat houses and therefore have the unique opportunity of experiencing the Ghanaian culture of rural day to day life and interacting with the family. Okuapeman Affiliate, Dominase Affiliate and Birim Agya Affiliate are host affiliates visited. The Habitat Build offers students a learning experience away with rural community folks, while lending a hand to humanity. It also helps to inculcate leadership and teamwork skills in the children whilst allowing the parents an opportunity to be directly involved in their children’s project.
